"

We strive to realize a full continuum of specialized services that prevents child sexual abuse and cares for children and families who have experienced this trauma."

-- Family Support Line

Family Support Line was founded in 1984 when a group of social service professionals and private citizens concerned about the increasing incidence of child sexual abuse established a volunteer program to address the need. A mother who was seeking support for herself and her daughter sensitized these individuals to the service needs of families with a child who had been sexually abused.

The program operated until 1987 when the task of responding to the growing problem of child sexual abuse exceeded the time and financial resources of the volunteers. Those involved recognized that to effectively provide therapeutic services for these children and parents, a more stable base of operations was necessary. In 1988, this volunteer effort was reestablished and incorporated as Family Support Line of Delaware County, Inc.

Today, Family Support Line develops and provides numerous specialized treatment groups for children, adolescents, and non-offending parents. Family Support Line's Sexual Abuse Prevention Education Program provides a comprehensive approach to the prevention and early detection of child sexual abuse. And, our professional training programs build the resources of our community.

We believe early intervention and family support are two critical elements in achieving a healthy and full recovery from the trauma of sexual abuse. Services for children and their family members should occur in a safe and trusting environment and be conducted by professionals trained to deal with this trauma.

Child sexual abuse affects all members of the family. For this reason, all members of the family need treatment and support, regardless of their ability to pay for them. A coordinated system of investigation, prosecution and treatment best serves the child and family. A proactive approach that offers family support and child sexual abuse prevention education to children, parents, professionals and community members is necessary to stop the abuse from happening in the first place.

Our goal is to insure comprehensive treatment services to all members of a family that have experienced sexual abuse, creating an environment of support and understanding that leads to a full recovery. We pProvide specialized services by trained professionals to children, families, and the community. We develop prevention initiatives that meet the increasing needs of specific constituencies in the area. We create communities that support and care about the health and safety of children and families.
