Safe
Summer
-- Education for Counselor to Camper Conduct --
Camps provide a fun,
safe, relaxed environment for children, which may allow them to
disclose abuse. Furthermore, counselors have the opportunity
to observe children in recreational and overnight activities, so
they are in a position to notice signs of physical and sexual abuse.
Counselors also must understand and practice safe boundaries with
campers and fellow counselors. This seminar offers the opportunity
to understand the dynamics of abuse and learn to handle disclosures
in a supportive, caring and effective manner.
- Overview of child abuse offenses
- Criminal and civil law
- Responsibilities of mandated reporters
- Child sexual abuse, scope and characteristics
