If you have been sexually abused, or think you may have been sexually abused, it is important that you know what to do and how to handle it. Even though you may be scared, there are a lot of people who are familiar with this and can help.
- Go to a safe place – it's important that you aren't alone and that you go to a place where you are safe from the abuser. If that is not possible, go directly to step 2.
- Tell an adult that you trust – this is not a secret you should keep. Tell an adult you trust, so they can make sure you stay safe from abuse. If this doesn't work, go to step 3.
- Report the abuse to the police, or continue to tell trustworthy adults until someone helps you – even if someone doesn't help at first, it is important that you keep trying until someone does.
- Talk to a counselor – sexual abuse can create a lot of problems and confusion in a person's life, even if you think you are okay. It is not easy, but it is very important to talk with a counselor so they can help you to begin healing.
