• Depressed, submissive, or nervous/paranoid behavior?
  • OR do they exhibit hypervigilant, combative, or aggressive behavior?
  • Are they defensive and private about their phone?
  • Are they showing signs of neglect, physical/sexual abuse, physical restraint, or confinement?
  • Are they accompanied by a significantly older adult and/or not allowed to speak for themselves?
  • Are they isolated and not allowed to contact friends or family?
  • Do they have any significant tattoos that stand out (tattoos with someone’s name, explicit content, etc.)?
  • Are they carrying large amounts of cash or multiple luxury items?
  • Use more than one phone?
  • Is a minor trying to pass as an adult?
  • Sudden changes in behavior?
  • Use emergency medical services frequently?
  • Scripted answers, always in the presence of someone else?
  • Very few personal belongings?
  • Do they need permission or direction for simple decisions?
  • Did the child stop attending school?
  • Are they worried about the safety of someone else?
  • Are they very attached to one person? 
  • Have they lost a lot of weight quickly? 
  • Are there signs of substance abuse? 

About Alice Hasbrouck

Alice is co-leader of NOP support group. She has worked with FSL in this role since she was a doctoral level intern in 2005. Alice’s undergraduate degree is in human development, and early childhood education and she works as a school psychologist for Early Intervention.
